Chilldrens Film: Conventions of a fantasy (monsters inc.)

The film introduces the idea of a fantasy world right from the beginning with the use of a mythical creature in the opening credits. they also use bright colours which is audience appropriate and helps to engage the viewers. composed music creates a sense of a surreal atmosphere, added to the rythym of the non diegetic sound the music develops the idea of an upbeat, fast paced plot. a key feature of the film is the use of doors in the plot, these doors are also used in the opening credits, which helps to develop the abnormality of the film. once we are in the first scene there are a lot of panning shots, this helps the audience to establish the location and theme. the failure of the monster to scare the child helps to build rapport between the audience and the film's characters. suspense is built through the managers raised tone when he announces the main character's name.  there is a variety of shades in the lighting of the scene which helps to give the film great dynamics, which is key to engaging the audience. the humour shown when the monster hurts himself is physical, this is very relevant to the audience. characters are placed in different sections of the screen to show there status. such as the junior monsters being shown as slightly smaller than the manager and also they are grouped which highlights the authority the manager has over all of them on his/her own.
